Barbara Newman Obituary, 79, Barbara Newman Has Passed Away

Barbara Newman Obituary, Death – At the age of 79, Barbara Newman passed away suddenly at Albany Medical Center on Saturday, December 24, 2022. She was born in Amityville, which is located on Long Island, New York, on August 17, 1943. Her parents, Charles Pechtel and Barbara Pechtel have since passed away.  Barbara received her diploma from Greenwich High School in the year 1961. She worked as a secretary for many years at the WSWHE BOCES in Saratoga Springs before she eventually retired. Barbara, who was a licensed trainer and groomer at the Saratoga Harness Track, had a passion for horses and worked there.

She has been an active member of the Saratoga Springs Fraternal Order of Eagles Auxiliary #2586 for thirty years, during which time she has held the positions of prior auxiliary and state president, in addition to her current position as treasurer. In her spare time, she and her husband, Joseph Newman, would frequently go on vacation. They went on numerous exciting journeys, some of which took them to exotic locations such as Germany, Switzerland, and the Caribbean. Crocheting was one of her hobbies, and she liked taking impromptu vacations to casinos. Barbara will be remembered by a large number of individuals as a wonderful friend who served as an example to them.

She is kind to everyone and would offer assistance to anyone who was struggling. The devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother that Barbara was, she will be sorely missed by her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son Jeffrey Dewey, her brothers Robert and Charles Pechtel, and her sisters Betty Jean Hathaway and Geraldine Mann. In addition to her parents, she was also predeceased by her son.

She is survived by her devoted husband of over 30 years, Joseph Newman of Saratoga Springs, New York; her two children, Cyndi (Steve) McKuhen of Crawfordville, Florida, and Bonnie Jo Dewey (Scott) of Victory Mills, New York; her sister, Joan (Dolly) Hotaling of Schenectady; and her five grandchildren, Samantha and Steve McKuhen Jr. of Florida, Melynda Santabar of Greenfield Center, and Brandon

A memorial service will be held on Friday, January 6, 2022, at 6 o’clock in the evening at the Flynn Bros, Inc. Funeral Home, which is located at 80 Main Street in Greenwich, New York 12834. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from four to six o’clock in the evening, prior to the funeral service.
