Jeff Shoen was born on September 4, 1956, in Carson City, Michigan, to parents Gordon W. and Wilma I. (Gavitt) Shoen. His father’s name was Jeff and his mother’s name was Wilma. On August 18th, 1979, they tied the knot in Nauvoo, Illinois. Diane M. Haas was his bride. She is successful. Jeff frequented the Catholic Church of the Assumption of St. Mary. He worked for Associated Office Furnishings as a warehouse foreman for more than 40 years and is now employed as a custodian at Bond Primary School in Assumption. The students at Bond Primary School in Assumption referred to him as Mr. Jeff.
Jeff had been a member of the Knights of Columbus for a very long time and had even held the position of Grand Knight. Over the course of almost ten years, Jeff coached the women’s summer softball league. Jeff thoroughly loved his time spent working with the Pits & Grins BBQ team as a co-pit master. Recently, Jeff displayed his talent as a photographer by capturing the elegance and grace of the Moweaqua eagles in his photographs. Carpentry was one of Jeff’s specialties, and his work can be seen in the residences and places of business of a great number of Jeff’s relatives, friends, and acquaintances.
Jeff was capable of anything, but his greatest love was spending time with his family, particularly those who called him Papa.
His wife of 43 years, Diane, as well as his daughters Abby (Brian) Barnes of Assumption and Hannah (Austin) Donoho of Moweaqua, as well as his grandsons Teddy, Scarlett, Gabe, and Sully, as well as his sister Nancy West of Ohio, and a huge number of nieces and nephews, all call this place home.
Before he was born, both of his parents and his older brother, Tom Shoen, passed away.
Even though Jeff’s passing was sudden and unanticipated, we are certain that the breadth of his love and the breadth of his talents will continue to live on in our hearts even after he is gone.
