Joel Freitag Obituary, Death – At his residence on Wednesday afternoon, December 21, 2022, Dr. Joel G. Freitag M.D., age 59, from Crawford, passed away. At the Aderhold Funeral Home Chapel in West on Thursday, there will be a rosary recited at 6:00 p.m., followed by visitation that will last until 8:00 p.m. On Friday, December 30, 2022, at one o’clock in the afternoon, a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Martin’s Catholic Church in Tours, with the Reverend Ed Karasek serving as the celebrant. The burial will take place at St. Mary’s Cemetery, which is located close to West.

Dr. Freitag was born on January 1, 1963, in Brooklyn, New York. He is the son of Walter and Sylvia Freitag and spent his childhood there. In 1984, he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree from Johns Hopkins University, which is located in Baltimore, Maryland. In 1988, he graduated with a Doctor of Medicine degree from Baylor College of Medicine, which is located in Houston, Texas. Sammi Boyd was his bride at the ceremony that took place on the 31st of December, 2001 in Gatlinburg, Tennessee.

Dr. Freitag was a devout Catholic who regularly attended Mass at St. Martin’s Catholic Church in Tours. In addition to being a member of the American Academy of Neurology and the Texas Neurological Society, he was also a director of the Stroke Program at Ascension Providence Hospital and a member of the American Medical Association, the Texas Neurological Society, the American Heart Association, and the American Medical Association. Over the past three decades, he has served the Central Texas Neurological Association in Waco in the capacity of Neurology Specialist.

Dr. Freitag had a profound affection for his family and took great pleasure in spending time with them, particularly in the activities of coaching and playing softball with his offspring. In addition to those activities, he relished traveling, showing his Shelties, playing golf, and working on the ranch. Dr. Freitag was predeceased by his siblings: a brother named Bill Hens, two sisters named Ellen Borden and Eileen Fusellaro, and both of his parents. Dr. Freitag’s father-in-law, Calvin Boyd, also passed away.

Surviving family members include his devoted wife of 21 years, Sammi Freitag of Crawford; his children, Jacy, Aden, Remi, Nash, and Knox Freitag; his mother-in-law, Nancy Boyd; a brother-in-law, J.C. “Scooter” Boyd; a brother and his wife, John Hens and Laurie; a sister and her husband, Nancy Segal and Robin; and a large number of nieces, nephews, and other J.C. “Scooter” Boyd, Dr. Timothy Martindale, Dr. Randy Gardell, Ronald Schneider, Ted Uptmore Jr., and Chris Shoots will serve as the pallbearers for this event.
