Rudy Johnson Obituary, Death – The death of Rudolph “Rudy” Lovell Johnson Sr., who resided in Fieldale, Virginia, took place at his residence on Friday Rudy Johnson was born in Henry County, Virginia, to the late O.H. Johnson and the late Mary Johnson. Rudy was preceded in death by his devoted wife, Peggy Johnson; his brother, Paul Johnson; and his sisters, Mildred Gordon, Nellie Cucinotta, and Ramona Johnson. In addition to his parents, Rudy was also predeceased by his loving parents. Rudy attended and graduated from Bassett High School. Ferrum College granted him his Associate Degree, Lynchburg College conferred upon him his Bachelor of Science degree, and the University of Virginia conferred upon him his Master of Education degree.
At the Stone Memorial Christian Church, he was not only a member but also an elder and a teacher of the Sunday School. In addition to being an active participant in the Silverstones group at Stone Memorial, he led a Bible study for men of a nondenominational background every Thursday morning. Rudy had previously held the position of District Governor for Ruritan National, in addition to being a founding member of the Stanleytown Ruritan Club.
He was an active participant in the Henry County Retired Educator’s Association and has been a Bassett Country Club member for a significant amount of time. Rudy served as an administrator for the Henry County Public Schools for a total of 30 years before taking early retirement. He enjoyed the game of golf very much and was a member of the inaugural teams at both Ferrum College and Lynchburg College.
His three children, Dr. Rudolph “Dolph” Johnson (who is married to Maureen), Phillip Johnson (who is married to Terri), and JoEllen Hylton, are his living descendants (Greg). Will Hylton, Drew Johnson, Adam Mello, Allie Pruett (Steven), Matt Johnson, Ben Hylton, Ryan Johnson, and Davis Johnson are among his grandchildren who are able to carry on his legacy after he has passed away.
