Harry Vogel Obituary, Death – We would want to take this opportunity to express our deepest condolences to you and your family on the passing of Harry Vogel earlier today. Our thoughts and prayers are with you at this difficult time. Harry was a figure from mythology, and he will always be remembered in that capacity for as long as people recall stories about him. One of the reasons that he will remain a part of the legacy of Surprise Lake Camp for all of the time is the unexpectedly large impact that he had on campers, staff, and Board members over the span of almost seven decades. At this year’s annual Spring Shabbat and on Harry Vogel Day, which is celebrated all throughout the summer, we paid tribute to Harry and his long and illustrious career as a camp counselor, and he was all smiles the whole time.
As Harry’s last year at the camp, we wanted to use this opportunity to express our gratitude for all of his hard work and dedication. The year in question is the one that saw both of these occurrences take place. During the course of the summer, it caused Harry a great deal of happiness to see both campers and staff members wearing their Harry Vogel Day t-shirts, and he enjoyed the time he got to spend with Teenside campers on Windsurfing Wednesdays. Harry Vogel Day was created in honor of Harry Vogel. The camp store sold t-shirts commemorating Harry Vogel Day, which were available for purchase.
Because Harry shared everything he had with the entire group at camp, each of our lives has been improved as a direct result of having the chance to get to know him and spend time with him. Let us not dwell in mourning over Harry’s passing when we are thinking about Bobbi, Joanie, and Missy; instead, let us celebrate the full life that he led and the wisdom that he imparted to us along the way rather than languishing in grief over his passing. Let us, rather than wallowing in sorrow over his loss, celebrate the full life he led and the wisdom he bestowed upon us along the way.
