Stig Pettersson Obituary, Death – We regret to inform you of the demise of Stig Pettersson, a former colleague. We offer our sincere sympathies to Stig’s family, friends, and colleagues in the motorsport industry because he was a cherished member of the hlins family for almost 40 years. Stig, a well-known name in motocross, off-road, and road racing, played a key role in creating the racing legacy that still characterizes Helins to this day. Stig decided to pursue a career in the technical side of racing in the late 1970s after putting his personal racing goals on hold. Prior to joining hlins in 1983 as the suspension technician for Yamaha’s Motocross and Road Racing teams, he first worked as Brad Lackey’s mechanic for the World Motocross Champion.
The suspension of some of the top racing teams in the world, such as Fast by Ferrachi, Team Muzzy, Erion Racing, Ducati Austin, Vance & Hines, Yoshimura Suzuki, M4 Racing, Team Michael Jordan, and Team Corona, was fine-tuned over the course of the ensuing decades by Stig while he was still employed by hlins USA. Stig founded his own hlins store and service facility, Pettersson Pro Suspension, in Anaheim, California, in 1990, using on his knowledge and experience from the racing circuits.
Stig moved to Hendersonville, North Carolina, in 2010 after accepting a full-time job at hlins USA. He remained there until his retirement in 2020. Stig contributed his knowledge to training programs and the creation of new suspension parts in addition to working with their staff of off-road and motocross technicians. Stig was a cherished coworker who will be remembered for his technical abilities and contributions to the long history of racing at hlins, according to Kenth hlin’s remembrance: “Stig was a beloved colleague. He dedicated his professional life to assisting racers and riders of all levels, from casual motorcycle riders to World Superbike Champions, in maximizing the performance of their hlins suspension.
