Ian McNeill Obituary, Death – Ian “Lumpy” McNeill, my cherished father-in-law and a former Clerk of the Northern Territory Legislative Assembly, passed away this morning After a brave and dogged fight against cancer, His death comes as a great shock to me, and I feel compelled to share the news with you despite the sorrow it causes. His wife Kit, to whom he had spent his entire life, was there to witness his passing. She had been his constant companion throughout his life. During this challenging week, every member of his family, including his children and other relatives, was there for him. We are very proud of him for making such a gallant attempt, and we want him to know how much we appreciate his giving it his all.
Lumpy was an amazing parent and grandparent, as well as a man who valued each and every second of his life and made the most out of every opportunity he was given. He did everything he could to spend time with his many friends in addition to his great affection for his family. He had a lot of friends. He was quite enthusiastic about many things, including politics, punting, the Bombers, and a good beer.
After a long and fruitful career in the NT Parliament, he took early retirement from his position as Clerk of the NT Parliament. He felt an incredible amount of pride as a result of this achievement.
He was highly known for having a reputation as a Clerk who served with complete and utter professionalism because of the significant amount of effort that he put into his work for the house, which earned him widespread recognition. He will be thought of fondly for a very long time to come. Although we are going to miss him tremendously, we are thankful that we were able to have him as a part of our life and our family for the time that we did. In addition, we would want to take this opportunity to extend our appreciation to the excellent people who work at the Darwin Hospice. They were extremely kind and caring, while yet maintaining a high level of professionalism.
