Gary Lovett Obituary, Forest Ecologist And Senior Scientist Emeritus Of Cary Institute Has Died

Gary Lovett Obituary, Death – On December 17, Gary M. Lovett, a forest ecologist at the Cary Institute and Senior Scientist Emeritus there, passed suddenly while skiing with friends in the Catskills. This information is being conveyed to you with the utmost sense of remorse on our part. Gary was a member of the Cary community who garnered a great deal of respect and admiration from his peers. Additionally, he was a leader in a significant number of other communities, such as the research community at Hubbard Brook, the Catskill Environmental Research and Monitoring (CERM) conference, and the Northeastern Ecosystem Research Cooperative.

He was a pioneer in all of these communities. Everyone who knew him and appreciated his curious mind, kind temperament, and unwavering commitment to the cause of protecting the natural world, particularly forests, is mourning his premature passing. Throughout his entire career, Gary pushed the boundaries of ecosystem study, generating important contributions to our understanding of how forests deal with pollution, cycle nutrients, and react to pathogens and pests. His dedication to incorporating scientific findings into public policy and everyday life was equaled only by his impressive research achievements.

Because of this interest, he decided to develop partnerships with other businesses and organizations, one of which was his Tree-SMART Trade initiative. The success he had with his studies was equaled only by his enthusiasm for it. We are going to keep working to honor Gary’s life and all that he has accomplished, and further details on a memorial service will be shared in the very near future. Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife, Janet, and their daughter, Emma, as well as all of his friends and coworkers who have expressed their deepest love and sympathy for him. Also in our thoughts and prayers are all of his friends and coworkers who have expressed their deepest love and sympathy for him. Gary was a brilliant person who contributed to the world in many different ways, including as a scientist, a friend, and an advocate for the environment.
