Robert F. Cooney Obituary, Death – Robert F. “Bob” Cooney, Jr., 61 years old, passed away unexpectedly on December 16, 2022 at Tobey Hospital in Wareham. He was a resident of East Wareham. Joan C. (Bradford) Cooney was his wife, and he was her spouse.
He was the son of Marie (Skehan) Cooney of Lakeville, who passed away, and the late Dr. Robert F. Cooney, and he was born in Dorchester. Bob has spent his entire life in Wareham. He attended Sacred Heart High School in Kingston, where he graduated with the Class of 1979, and then went on to Springfield College, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in 1984. At the time of our conversation, he was working as the store manager for Aubuchon Hardware in Wareham.
Bob was a big fan of music and particularly liked listening to songs that were popular in the 1960s, 1970s, and 1980s. He enjoyed astronomy and skiing. He never missed an episode of Jeopardy and thoroughly loved competing in trivia competitions as well as completing the crossword puzzle published in the Boston Globe every day. Bob was a member of the Knights of Columbus in the Fr. Grogan Council # 15280 in Wareham in addition to being a communicant of St. Patrick’s Church, which is located in Wareham.
Surviving family members include his wife, Joan, of East Wareham; his daughters Lisa M. Cooney and Patricia A. Cooney, both of Wareham; his mother, Marie, of Lakeville; and his brothers and sisters, Mary Crossman and husband, Daren, of Lakeville; Tim Cooney and Kathleen Braley and husband, Ralph, both of Wareham; Carol Spenard and husband, Ken of Rochester; Teresa Mattson and husband, Wayne of Marion; Dan Cooney and Gail Denis of In addition, he is survived by a large number of nieces and nephews, as well as his cherished dog “Sadie.”
On Wednesday, December 21, 2022, at 9:00 AM, his funeral will begin at Chapman Funerals & Cremations – Wareham, which is located at 2599 Cranberry Hwy. (Rt. 28) in Wareham. This will be followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM, which will take place at St. Patrick’s Church, which is located at 94 High St. in Wareham. The funeral service will be followed by the interment at St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Wareham. On Tuesdays, the hours for receiving visitors will be from 4 to 7 pm.
