Mary Dixon Obituary, Death – Mary Taylor Dixon, age 77, from Abbeville, North Carolina, passed away at the Abbeville Area Medical Center on Saturday, December 17, 2022. She was one of fourteen children and the daughter of the late E.L. Radford and Nylic Rowe Radford. She was born in Roanoke, Virginia. Throughout her life, Mrs. Dixon was many things to many people; yet, if she could be remembered for one thing, it would be as an educator and a loving caregiver to the people, plants, and animals that were closest to her. Mrs. Dixon got her Master of Arts degree from the University of Georgia in addition to her Bachelor of Science degree from Georgia State University in 1997.
She established the Abbeville Squared Facebook Group with the intention of promoting and providing support for the Abbeville Town Square and other public places that have historical significance for the purpose of beauty and the upkeep of such areas. Her profound love for Abbeville shown through in the care and attention that she lavished on the transient flowers and plants that she cared to all over the town square in her capacity as a master gardener. Mrs. Dixon was married twice, the first time to Jim Cofer of Snellville, Georgia, and the second time to Charles “Chuck” Dixon, who passed away from Ocean Isle Beach.
North Carolina. Emily and Julia are her granddaughters, and she has one great-granddaughter named Savannah. She is survived by her two sons, Jeff Cofer (and his wife Bevin) of Johns Creek, Georgia, and Chris Cofer (and his wife Valerie) of Knoxville, Tennessee. A memorial service will take place at a later time close to the square in Abbeville. The family wishes to convey their heartfelt appreciation to the people of Abbeville for providing their mother with a warm welcome and enabling her to contribute her skills toward the upkeep of Abbeville’s reputation for friendliness and attractiveness.
