Susan Kaplansky Obituary, Death – Susan Kaplansky died on December 17, 2022. Beloved wife of Rabbi Howard G. Kaplansky; cherished mother and mother-in-law of Mindy Kirsh (Dr. Edward) and Emily Cohen (Dr. Daniel); cherished grandmother of Julia and Zoe Kirsh, Alex and Samantha Cohen; cherished daughter of the late Manfred and Thekla Kraus; cherished sister-in-law of the late Dr. Ronald Kaplansky (Judy); cherished aunt, cousin, and friend.
Susan was a fiery, focused, and determined lady. She was the Director of the Senior Adult Department at the Jewish Community Center in St. Louis for many years, and she was an advocate for others. She also worked as a teacher. While pursuing her master’s degree, Susan worked as an English teacher at a high school. She also appreciated the opportunity to mentor the J’s practicum students while they were in her department. Susan continued to serve the community by volunteering for the Alzheimer’s Association after she had technically retired. Both education and physical activity were very important to her.
Susan is frequently seen at the J partaking in a workout class such as yoga, reading, or keeping up with current affairs. Susan’s top goal in life, though, was always her family. She and Howard had been married for around 56 years and had a wonderful marriage. Susan was a loving and devoted mother to both of her daughters, both while they were little and later in life. She also valued the time she spent with her four grandchildren as “Susu,” who will continue on her legacy.
Her memories will bring you good fortune. Procession of the dead This event will take place at the United Hebrew Congregation, 13788 Conway Road in Woodsmill, on Wednesday, December 21st at 1:30 PM.
