He was born in Gravel Switch, Kentucky on January 30th, 1932. His parents, Mose Smothers and Minnie Webb Smothers, both passed away before his birth. Before he was born, both of his parents had already passed away. At this moment, both of his parents had already passed away from this life. His parents, as well as his two brothers, Robert Smothers and Albert Smothers, and his three sisters, Zelma Reynolds, Kathleen Bennett, and Lena Milburn, all passed away before he did.
