Michael Howell Obituary, An Avid Hunter And Fisherman Has Died

Michael Howell Obituary, Death – Michael John Howell, born on September 3, 1953, died unexpectedly on November 10, 2022. He was a passionate hunter, fisherman, and man who truly appreciated being in the tranquil outdoors, but there was only one deeper devotion of his time, energy, and love: to his family. He was a patient, supporting, present, loving father and spouse, and this was his true calling in life. This typically went unnoticed by most, which suited him well. Mike was born in Hollywood, California to John and Marilyn Howell (Clark). He was raised by his mother following his parents’ divorce when he was a small child, which led to him finding joy in the outdoors because time spent outside meant time spent not doing chores.

He met the love of his life, Marilee Murray, in Los Angeles after graduating from high school, and they married in June 1978. Soon later, longing for the wildness that was vanishing surrounding Los Angeles, they relocated to Utah to embark on a new journey. Mike promptly discovered an opening at his dream work in Utah and began a 37-year career with Browning in Morgan, Utah. Starting off sanding bow limbs and eventually rising to Assistant Plant Manager at Browning Archery, he channeled his passion for shooting and hunting into his career, amassing an encyclopedic knowledge of weapons, bows, and gunsmithing by the time he retired in 2015.

While Mike enjoyed shooting, hunting, and fishing throughout the western United States, one thing was always more important to him: his family. Above competitive shooting titles and successful hunts, Mike took joy in being a father to his children. He put in the long hours, helped with school assignments, and attended every sporting event, meet, school musical, before or after-school practice, win or lose, with an eager smile and a hug. Mike is survived by his son Jedediah Howell, wife Marilee Howell, mother Marilyn Clark, and father John Howell. His three children, Rhett, Amanda, and Zach, his granddaughter Bea, cousin Alex Clark, stepmother Jackie Howell, her daughters Terry and Cathy, and his mother-in-law Dorothy and her children Colleen and David are all still here.
