Georgiana Kuns Obituary, Georgiana Kuns Has Passed Away

Georgiana Kuns Obituary, Death – Georgiana Margaret Kuns passed away peacefully on Dec. 11, 2022, having dealt with health issues over the past two years. She died in the arms of her loving family and will be greatly missed. She was born on Dec. 20, 1943, at Randolph Field, Texas. She was the youngest daughter to Lieutenant Colonel Merrill and Orpha Reeh. Martin, her 55-year-old loving husband, her son Westley (and his wife Theresa), and her older sister Mary Empy all survive her. She has two grandchildren, Austin and Samuel Kuns, and many nieces and nephews. Her family moved to Portland, Ore., in 1948 where George attended Alameda Elementary School. She graduated from Grant High School in 1958, where she was a Future Teachers of America member.

She enrolled at Oregon State University in 1962, majoring in Elementary Education. George graduated from OSU in 1966 and began teaching first grade at Irvington Elementary School in Portland. She took a year off in 1971 to give birth to her son, Westley. She returned to teaching in 1973 at Beaumont Elementary. Three years later, she returned to Alameda Elementary, this time as a teacher, and stayed for the rest of her career. In 1980, she continued her education by earning a master’s degree in education from the University of Portland. She relished the opportunity to introduce approximately 750 first-graders to the world of learning. Georgiana was loved and will be missed by the lives she touched.

George enjoyed horseback riding, skiing, snowmobiling, fishing, and hunting on her farm. In 2001, she and her husband built a second home east of Sisters, Oregon, where they created many happy memories. She started quilting in 2002 and has made numerous quilts for family and friends over the last two decades.
On Saturday, January 7, 2023, at 2 p.m., a memorial service will be held to honor Georgiana’s life. It will be held at Pleasant Home United Methodist Church, 31632 S.E. Bluff Rd., Gresham, OR 97080.
