Betty Gomer Obituary, Death – Betty Irene Gomer, 92, of Wauseon, died on Thursday, December 15, 2022, in Fulton Manor. Betty Nofziger was born on April 7, 1930, in Fulton County, to Floyd and Bertha (Spangler) Nofziger. In 1949, she graduated from Chesterfield High School. She married Emanuel L. Gomer, Jr. on May 27, 1950, and he died in 2013. She left the former McCord Corporation in Wauseon in 1995 after nearly 40 years of service. Despite being a working mother, she made time for her favorite hobbies, which included ceramics, crocheting, and sewing. She was an active member of Christ United Methodist Church, where she sang in the choir and helped out with many initiatives.
Betty was a member of the Wauseon Women’s Club and the VFW auxiliary, and she and her husband, Junior, enjoyed helping out at taco nights and fish fries. Betty also adored the Fulton County Fair, where she spent many years working in the porcelain booth. Her retirement years were spent on bus trips with her husband, working at the Wauseon Senior Center a couple days a week, volunteering, and selling Avon. She enjoyed bingo, church activities, and reading until her eyesight went, at which point she rekindled her interest by listening to books on tape.
Betty and Junior arrived at Fulton Suites in 2013 because Betty’s vision was fading and Junior’s health was worsening. He had been married to her for 63 years when he died later that year. Betty stayed in the Suites, where she enjoyed spending time with new friends and taking part in the varied activities available to residents. In 2019, she relocated from the Suites to Fulton Manor. Betty’s greatest love and joy, despite her many hobbies and activities, were her three daughters, five granddaughters, ten great-grandchildren, and her entire extended family. She was a beautiful person with a big soul who was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend to everyone who knew her.
Surviving Betty are one son, Robert (Kevin) Gomer of Cathedral City, CA; two daughters, Kathy Marnoff of Wauseon and Barbara (Jack) Croninger of Wauseon; five grandchildren, Mike (Sandy) Stevens of Morenci, MI, Jennifer (Todd) Squires of Fremont, IN, Bryan (Mandy) Croninger of Delta, OH, Becky (Terry) Hammond of Hamilton, OH, and Brad (Jen) Croninger of Wauseon. All survivors include Phyllis Barth of Parma, OH, Linda (Sanford) Kauffman of Goshen, IN, two brothers, David Nofziger of Sarasota, FL and Charles (Pam) Nofziger of Cocoa Beach, FL, and sister-in-law Verna Nofziger of Hannibal, MO. Her husband, parents, brother, Harold Nofziger, and her infant daughter Julie all died before her.
Betty’s visitation will be place at Christ United Methodist Church in Wauseon on Tuesday, December 20, 2022, from 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. Dan Bruner will preside at the church’s funeral services on Wednesday, December 21, at 11:00 a.m. The family would appreciate memorial contributions to Christ United Methodist Church or Fulton Manor.
