Betty Bechtol Obituary, Death – On Wednesday, December 14, 2022, at the comfort of her own home, Betty F. Bechtol, who was 101 years old and had lived in Fort Recovery, Ohio, passed away with her family by her side. She was born in Muncie, Indiana, on November 18, 1921, to the late William Shawver and Blanche (Lindsay) Shawver, both of whom have since passed away. In addition to her biological parents, Betty was predeceased by her devoted husband, Ralph L. Bechtol, whom she wed on October 22, 1941 and who passed away on September 25, 2003; her daughter, Mary Cohen; her two grandsons and one great grandson; and her two sisters, two half-brothers, and one half-sister.
Betty is survived by her two sisters, two half-brothers, and one half-sister. Betty is survived by her children, Danny (Molly) Bechtol of Fort Recovery, Ohio, Larry Bechtol of Florida, Ronald (Glenda) Bechtol of Phelan, Alabama, and Joseph (Susan) Bechtol of Muncie, Indiana; her 18 grandchildren; and many great and great-great grandchildren. Larry Bechtol of Florida is also survived by his children. Betty received her diploma from Bryant High School in the year 1940. She was a homemaker for the majority of her life, and she devoted that time to taking care of her family. Both the VFW Auxiliary and the American Legion Auxiliary in Fort Recovery counted Betty among their ranks as a member.
She was a leader for the Blue Bird Camp Fire group in addition to her service as a Den Mother for the Fort Recovery Cub Scouts Pack 199. Betty attended the Fort Recovery United Methodist Church throughout her entire life. This church is located in Fort Recovery. On Tuesday, December 20, 2022, at 10:00 AM, a memorial service honoring Betty’s life will take place at the Brockman Boeckman Funeral Home in Fort Recovery. Pastor David Porath will preside over the service. After the funeral, the burial will take place at the Salamonia Cemetery in Salamonia, Indiana.
