Caroline Godfrey Obituary, Indianapolis IN, Caroline Godfrey Has Passed Away

Caroline Godfrey Obituary, Death – Caroline Knudten Godfrey, 56, died peacefully at home, surrounded by her loving family, on December 14, 2022. Caroline grasped the essence of unconditional love as a loving wife, mother, daughter, sister, grandmother, and friend. Anyone who had the chance to speak with her felt recognized and really cared about. Caroline possessed the ability to communicate God’s love to everyone she met, whether it was soothing a child after a rough game, laughing across the table during a game of nertz, crying with a friend in times of sadness, or sharing her faith with a neighbor.

Caroline had spent her entire life as a dedicated Christian, loving the Lord and trusting in God’s will even in the most terrible of circumstances. Caroline, like Jesus’ mother, said “yes” to the Lord every day. Caroline Knudten was born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, on October 17, 1966, to parents Herb and Anne (Locher) Knudten. She went on to play tennis at the University of Kentucky, where she met Bill Godfrey, her future husband. They married on June 16, 1990, and have been married for 32 years. Bill and Caroline have dedicated their lives to helping and caring for one another. They spent the day entertaining friends and family at their lake house, singing along to “A Groovy Kind of Love,” and asking each other, “Have I told you how much I love you today?”

Caroline was devoted to her four children and relished every aspect of motherhood. She especially liked it when her children were all together for family gatherings. Caroline was a member of the parishes of All Saints (Cedar Rapids), St. Monica, St. Maria Goretti, and Our Lady of Mount Carmel, where she made many life-long, beloved friends. She was active in her church, serving as a CRHP retreat leader, an O’Connor House mentor, and participating in various Bible studies. Caroline valued her involvement in the Guerin Catholic High School community.

Caroline is survived by her parents, Herb and Anne Knudten; husband, Bill Godfrey; children, Andrew (Megan) Godfrey, Kathryn (Peter) Johnston, Matthew (Reiley) Godfrey, and Luke Godfrey; grandchildren, Noah and Beau; siblings, Barbara Knudten and Bill (Brooke) Knudten; nephews, Nick and Joey; nieces, Kylie, Caitlin and Izzy; Aunt Laura Locher and family, and the extended Godfrey family.
